“GGN” Special: Demetrius Shipp Jr. Talks “All Eyez On Me”

Demetrius Shipp Jr. took on the hard task of bringing Tupac Shakur to life on the big screen for the upcoming biopic, All Eyez On Me. The 28-year-old definitely has the looks down, from Pac’s famous nose piercing to his facial hair, but hip-hop heads are all waiting to see if he can capture the legendary rapper’s mannerisms, personality, and, most importantly, his spirit. 

The film is named after the last album that Tupac put out before he was murdered in September 1996. In the two decades since his death, his influence on pop culture has remained powerful (he was even inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year).

There’s a great deal of pressure on Shipp, and the movie itself, to do Makaveli justice. But if you ask Snoop, who was lucky enough to see the film early, Shipp brought his A-game and left nothing on the table. In Snoop’s conversation with Shipp for “GGN,” the two discuss Shipp’s musical roots, the first time Snoop met Tupac, and Snoop’s thoughts on how the film and Shipp stack up to the real-life Pac.
