To call a place a suburb implies green grass, picket fences and a car in our in front of every garage. But when De Paris, together with Nike SB, dubbed their latest video “Summer Suburbs”, an excursion through the building complexes and playgrounds of Paris’s surrounding communities, it’s definitely more tongue-in-cheek than literal.

Shot by Guillaume Perimony, the DP and Swoosh edit is actually a black and white, noir-themed montage of some incredible local ripping through some working-class neighborhoods. Think “La Haine", the 1995 French cult-classic about hip-hop, coming of age, and socioeconomic strife meets a weekend session with the homies. Scored to le trap tune of Lomepal’s “Pommade,” the video is a refreshing and entertaining culmination of style and simplicity. The spots aren’t out-of-this-world, but they’re original and rugged. The skating from cats like Yann Garin, Hugo Corbin, Santiago Sasson isn’t all bangers, but their tricks are incredibly refined and varied.

“Summer Suburbs” is fun, crude, and full of fresh local attitude. Do yourself a favor and pop it on for your viewing pleasure.
