June is Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Pride month, and the one year anniversary of the landmark Supreme Court decision that legalized same-sex marriages in the United States. MERRY JANE offers this guide to one of the nation’s oldest celebrations in the heart of West Hollywood.

Party for a Purpose

The Los Angeles parade and festival commemorate one of the most important events in gay history, the 1969 rebellion at the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar on Christopher Street in New York.

Musical Lineup

From Charli XCX to R&B up-and-comer Gallant, there is literally something for everyone at this year’s festival.

“We’re really excited to be playing Pride, especially since we just moved to LA a few months ago,” the Pop duo Timeflies tells MERRY JANE.  “The whole festival is about love, acceptance, and having a good time — which is so much of what our music is about.”

Free Friday

LA Pride’s festival is free on Friday organizer Christopher Street West announced. This comes after some in the LGBT community voiced concern over ticket prices.

Cannabis Culture

It’s no secret cannabis and music festivals go hand in hand.

While you can't buy flower at LA Pride you can educate yourself about the benefits of medical marijuana by stopping by tables hosted by Los Angeles area collectives like MedMen and The Higher Path (pictured above). If you’re attending pride festivities stop by and say hello and tell them MERRY JANE sent you!
