The world’s a little duller without Chairlift in it. The Brooklyn-based duo comprised of Caroline Polachek and Patrick Wimberly ended their run last year, eight years after releasing their debut album, Does You Inspire You. Their breakup came in the wake of Moth, perhaps their most accomplished album yet, and was certainly unexpected. Nowadays we have to appreciate every little bit of Polachek we get.

Luckily, Chairlift’s primary singer/songwriter has managed to considerably beef up her resumé in recent years. Most notably, she wrote and produced “No Angel” from Beyoncé’s self-titled 2013 album, but she’s also managed to forge some strong collaborations in the indie world. She guested on Blood Orange’s Cupid Deluxe, made a track with PC Music’s Danny L Harle, and co-wrote Empress Of’s latest song. Today, she’s popped up on yet another collaborative record. 

New York-based duo Fischerspooner haven’t released an album since 2009’s Entertainment, but they’re finally in the process of rolling out a follow-up. Their upcoming album SIR was co-written and produced by R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe, the ex-boyfriend of band member Casey Spooner, and they’re now two tracks into the release process. Following June’s “Have Fun Tonight,” which featured contributions from frequent Run The Jewels collaborator Boots, Fischerspooner have shared “Togetherness,” which has Polachek fulfilling lead vocal duties.

The song is accompanied by a video that reflects Fischerspooner’s performance art past, with Polachek and a bevy of shirtless male dancers flailing their arms about in very modern dance-oriented patterns. The song itself sounds hyper-modern, and pretty similar to what Baths has been doing in the years since Fischerspooner’s last album, so it’s safe to say that the duo haven’t lost a step.

SIR was originally slated for a September release on Ultra, but it’s now been pushed back to February 16th, 2018. Stay tuned for more details.
